The Flow

As humanity drifts closer to social and ecological collapse, The Flow throws us a lifeline woven from the perennial wisdom of an unlikely cast of characters on the periphery of mainstream culture. Their lives reveal another way of being, rooted in movement, nature, and presence.

It is 2026. As a species, we are nearing the edge of social and ecological catastrophe, more and more disconnected from what sustains us. In ever stranger territory, our compass spinning, humanity searches for signs of hope. Yet, just beneath our feet, under the parched surface of our culture, courses the timeless, rejuvenating current of the Flow

The Flow is a feature documentary film that suggests that the first and most critical step in finding our way forward may simply be to look at things from a different perspective. Lulled by the dominant culture’s mechanized hum and intoxicating momentum, we have forgotten that other ways of seeing and relating are available to us. In the film, we come to know these ways through the lives, philosophy, and practices of an unexpected, diverse assembly of ‘teachers’; Hualalai Keohuloa - a traditional Hawaiian navigator, Rossi - a San Francisco bike messenger, Roxanne Swentzell - an Indigenous Tewa high desert farmer, Amy Secada - a professional street dancer, Chungliang Al Huang - a calligrapher & Tai Chi master, Jewell Weaver - an airport window washer, and Erykah Badu - well known as a Grammy winning recording artist, she is also a birth and death doula.

These individuals do not know each other, but each of their lifeways, taken together express perennial wisdom; a way of right relationship with ourselves and nature; a culture of flow, that stands in contrast to the modern world around them. Their practices bring about profound states of presence and embodiment, which reflect their broader insights on the flow of larger scale patterns in our world. From Hualalai’s teachings on ‘presence’ and ‘listening’ as he navigates the open ocean, to Roxanne and her farming techniques that mimic the patterns of nature, to the profound act of letting go as Erykah Badu assists people in their final passing, The Flow gives voice to the overlooked wisdom of marginalized cultures and holds exciting possibilities for a world that’s ready to listen.

A cinematic meditation that reintegrates scattered and forgotten threads of our earthly legacy, the film does not offer prescriptive solutions to environmental collapse or social erosion. It instead reorients us to the heart of the problem, immersing us in a different way of seeing and relating, one from which more meaningful and lasting responses can naturally arise.
