A man and the sea

Filmed over ten years, A Man and the Sea follows big-wave surfer Christy Davis from 64-74 as aging begins to pry him away from the love that has defined his life: surfing the massive, freezing waves at Mavericks.

Over the decade of filming, Christy Davis is diagnosed with osteoporosis, breaks his back surfing, and has a heart attack in the Mavericks lineup. Again and again, he recovers - and returns to Mavericks.

A Man and the Sea explores what is possible in later life, the fine line between passion and addiction, and the moment when the greater courage may lie not in holding on, but in letting go of what has made us who we are.
