Filmmakers Collaborative SF

Founded in 1988 by filmmakers Michal Aviad and Kevin White, Filmmakers Collaborative SF is a 501c3 nonprofit membership organization led by award-winning media professionals with a mission to catalyze positive change through the power of filmmaking. We believe in the power of film to move hearts and minds and affect change!

Originally founded to support our own projects through a nonprofit organization, over time we started offering fiscal sponsorship to our colleagues. Our fiscal sponsorship service grew into a formal program, and we now offer fiscal sponsorship to those with projects that are a good fit with our mission. We have provided support through fiscal sponsorship for 60+ films to date.

With the pandemic, FCSF evolved into a membership based organization and started offering additional services such as sliding-scale consulting, workshops and other educational opportunities, plus screenings and gatherings at our 9th Street Media Consortium Building in San Francisco. We have also helped develop fundraising and distribution strategies with our members to help get their films over the finish-line and maximize impact!

Since the beginning, we have had an independent filmmaker centered ethos and continue to make our own original films, as well as films for nonprofits and government agencies as part of our commitment to mission-driven filmmaking.

Our work has been exhibited at many major film festivals, including Sundance, Berlin, SF International, South by Southwest, Wild & Scenic and others. Our films have also been broadcast on PBS, Channel 4 (UK), ABC/Disney, ZDF, Arte, CBC, and many others, plus streaming on many VOD platforms such as Amazon and Kanopy. Frequently our films include a corresponding educational curriculum, web site, social media campaign, and other tools to maximize impact.
